Jeffery Tover is an abstract, non-objective, and award winning artist. He lives in the town of Benicia, which is just outside of San Francisco. He is also a photographer, in which he takes most of his pictures in his travels to Europe and Asia. From this his paintings are inspired from these photos. He takes inspiration from Joan Mitchell and Willem De Kooning. Tover produces works full of colorful gestures and marks. His main goal in his work is to create a piece that is never boring and will keep the viewer captivated. His work is exhibited in galleries across the country. A quote from Tover in his website states “...my paintings are as unique as each person walking the earth. they are meant to invoke their own persona and therefore influence the viewer in different ways. I paint without fear and without intention. I wish to explore the possibilities and be open to the dialogue that presents itself between the creator and it's creation..." I think this quote is really important for non-objective and abstract artists to keep in mind. This quote speaks to me because I want to pursue abstraction and I want all of my paintings to have meaning and interest to the viewer.
