What I can learn from her

  • Building compositions using energetic brushstrokes and natural forms.

  • Her work shows how abstraction can still be inspired by real-world subjects like plants.

  • Some things to think about for my paintings are:

    • Reference photos

    • using repetition of marks to build rhythm in a painting

    • experimenting with organic shapes rather than geometric ones

    • adding texture or mixed materials to create more visual depth.

Fuen Chin’s art reflects several trends in contemporary art:

  • Nature and ecological themes

  • Cross-disciplinary media

    • Her use of embroidery and fiber shows how contemporary artists combine painting with craft.

  • Calligraphic abstraction

    • Her brushwork works with Asian calligraphy with modern abstract painting.
